Kyrgyzstan to Establish Embassy in Addis Ababa, Boosting Bilateral Ties

Ethiopia has warmly welcomed Kyrgyzstan's decision to establish a diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa, a move hailed as a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two nations. The announcement was lauded by Ethiopia's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, who emphasized the positive impact this development will have on political, economic, and cultural relations.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal, who is based in Islamabad, Pakistan, conveyed the Ethiopian government's appreciation to his Kyrgyz counterpart in Pakistan, Ambassador Avazbek Atakhanov, following the announcement. The decision by Kyrgyzstan comes after a period of increased diplomatic engagement, including Ambassador Dr. Jemal's recent presentation of credentials in the Kyrgyz Republic and a subsequent high-level reciprocal visit to Addis Ababa by Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Foreign Minister, Asein Isaev.

During his visit to the Kyrgyz Embassy in Islamabad, Ambassador Dr. Jemal formally expressed the Ethiopian government's gratitude to Ambassador Atakhanov for this significant step. The two ambassadors engaged in discussions on various matters of mutual and common interest, exploring potential initiatives to enhance cooperation at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker emphasized the positive impact the opening of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Addis Ababa would have on the relationship between the two countries. He stated that it would provide a crucial platform for fostering stronger political dialogue, promoting economic partnerships, and encouraging cultural exchange.

In response, Ambassador Atakhanov of Kyrgyzstan commended Ambassador Dr. Jemal's efforts in strengthening the bonds between Ethiopia and Kyrgyzstan. He assured Ambassador Dr. Jemal of Kyrgyzstan's full support in further expanding cooperation across various sectors, both regionally and on the global stage.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula has been serving as the first non-resident Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Kyrgyzstan since December 2024, playing a key role in fostering this growing diplomatic relationship. The establishment of a resident Kyrgyz mission in Addis Ababa marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries, paving the way for deeper engagement and collaboration in the future.
