Ethio Telecom CEO, Firehiwot Tamiru, and Mastercard Africa President, Mark Elliott, have discussed opportunities for collaboration to explore the launch of new digital financial services in Ethiopia.
Information obtained from Ethio Telecom indicates that senior officials from both institutions also participated in the discussion.
It was stated that the cooperation framework discussed by the institutions aims to enhance digital financial solutions by utilizing the Telebirr and Mastercard platforms, significantly expand financial inclusion, and promote sustainable growth.
Ethio Telecom CEO, Firehiwot Tamiru, explained that their institution has a large customer base and extensive infrastructure in Africa, which has created enabling conditions to unlock new opportunities.
In this regard, she affirmed their eagerness to work in partnership with Mastercard.
Mastercard Africa President, Mark Elliott, for his part, stated that Ethio Telecom's rapid customer growth and significant infrastructure capacity make it a preferred partner.
He also confirmed that this collaboration has created a good opportunity for Mastercard and their commitment to its implementation.
According to ENA, the information also indicated that this strategic collaboration will significantly enhance Ethiopia's competitiveness in the global digital economy.
It was further stated that this will help achieve sustainable growth and wealth creation by fostering an inclusive and comprehensive digital finance ecosystem and sustainable development.
