Seedling preparation following a scientific method is underway: Ministry of Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that seedling preparation and land identification following a scientific method are being carried out for this year's Green Legacy program.

State Minister of Agriculture, Professor Eyasu Elias, stated that seedling preparation, land identification, and preparation of seedling planting pits are underway for the Green Legacy program to be held in the upcoming rainy season.

He mentioned that over 800,000 hectares of land have been identified for seedling planting so far.

He also mentioned that seedling preparation is being carried out in 129,000 government and private nurseries for this purpose.

He stated that monitoring and support are being provided to ensure that the preparation of the seedlings follows a scientific method, and the work that has started will continue with strength.

He mentioned that focus is being given to the preparation of indigenous trees for various uses in the upcoming rainy season, including ornamental trees, vegetable and fruit trees, trees for animal feed, and those used for forest development.

The State Minister also said that the activities carried out in previous years have enabled the reduction of soil erosion in all areas, the recovery of degraded lands, and the return of dried-up rivers, streams, and lakes.

He also stated that during the dry season, the public's joint work to increase forest cover has laid the foundation for coping with the impacts of climate change, ENA reported.
