The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Ambassadors in Juba have urged the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) to take immediate action in addressing the ongoing armed violence in Upper Nile State.
In a joint press statement, the ambassadors expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions and violent clashes in Nasir County, warning that the unrest threatens to undermine the progress made under the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
They also highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation in the region. The IGAD envoys called on all parties and their affiliates to cease hostilities and exercise maximum restraint. They emphasized the importance of upholding the Permanent Ceasefire and adhering to the provisions of the R-ARCSS.
In this regard, they welcomed the recent meeting of the Presidency and its outcomes, encouraging continued dialogue and consultations within the peace agreement framework. Reaffirming their commitment, the IGAD ambassadors pledged continued support for South Sudan and all parties involved in the R-ARCSS throughout the extended transitional period.
