… Oh , Adwa !
Beneath the sunlit skies of March,
Where mountains stand,
Ethiopians rose, with their spirit arched,
To shield their land,
Whose yards blessed and sacred,
With layers of treasure –mystery and wisdom,
Divinely protected,
Fenced by a black blood.
Oh ,Adwa !
The drums of war, rhythmic dances of heroes,
Still heard echoing in the valley,
Martyred ,rested happily,
From every hill and cliff ,
I can hear Menelik laugh ,
While cheering up his grand victory .
Oh,Adwa !
I can see thousands of happily fallen 'nefs' ,
Martyred for a nation to breathe.
I can see lions’ roar, eagles cry,
Dances of heroes, a fiery blaze,
Beneath the stars,
Painted bold in blood never to die.
Oh,Adwa !
Their legacy ,a timeless praise ,
Adwa, the name that freedom sings,
A testament for truth- right - and justice,
Disgrace for colonialists.
Oh,Adwa !
Your mystery still mystic ,
As grand as Gebeyehu,
As grand as meneilk,
Still fresh in every heart,in every hand,
Soul flesh and blood,
A symbol of pride and pain,
Built bold in Ethiopia, the eternal land .
Oh, Adwa !
