Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to Boost Loan Accessibility

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) stated that it will work to improve its loan services and increase accessibility in the coming periods.

The CBE President, Abe Sano, during a half-year performance review with officials from the Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), reported positive overall performance for the bank. He highlighted that deposits collected up to February 16, 2017, exceeded 350 billion Birr, and the bank's total deposits surpassed 1.54 trillion Birr.

He noted that 84.5% of the bank's total financial transactions were conducted through digital payment options, describing this as encouraging and stating that efforts are underway to further improve service quality.

CBE President Abe indicated that loan services will be a key focus for the bank over the next five years, mentioning that the total loan amount in the past budget year grew to 1.35 trillion Birr. He also revealed plans to introduce new types of loans with improved service delivery processes to expand loan accessibility for the bank's customers.
