Ireland has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with Ethiopia on initiatives promoting women's economic empowerment and combatting gender-based violence.
The announcement came during a meeting between the Minister of Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia, Ergoge Tesfaye (PhD), and the Irish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Olivia Leslie.
Minister Ergoge Tesfaye expressed gratitude for Ireland's continuous backing of Ethiopia's social protection programs and initiatives geared towards empowering women.
Highlighting the importance of continued collaboration, the Minister advocated for the strengthening of existing partnerships to achieve greater impact.
For her part, Ambassador Leslie, echoing Ireland's dedication to gender equality, assured Ethiopia of her country's unwavering support in bolstering women's economic opportunities and preventing the scourge of gender-based violence. This commitment signifies a deepened alliance aimed at fostering a more equitable and prosperous society for Ethiopian women.
The collaboration is expected to focus on initiatives that provide access to education, skills development, financial resources, and leadership opportunities for women across the country.
It will also address systemic barriers and discriminatory practices that hinder women's full participation in the economy, according to a piece of information from the Ministry.
