The Ethiopian Air Force, which is being built through strong institutional reform, has succeeded in growing into a fully modern aviation institution, stated the Commander-in-Chief of the FDRE Air Force, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdassa.
The Commander-in-Chief met and held discussions with sector leaders who are undergoing training at the Defense Command and Staff College at the Air Force Headquarters.
As he stated during the discussion, the Ethiopian Air Force, which embarked on a journey based on strong institutional reform, has grown into a fully modern aviation institution because its members, from the leadership down to the lowest ranks, worked together, ready for change, in a short period.
Lieutenant General Yilma Merdassa mentioned that an institution with strong internal unity, capable of utilizing modern technology, and possessing professional capacity has been built as an army. He also stated that some of the plans they have to make it the preferred aviation institution in Africa by 2022 E.C. are already being achieved ahead of schedule.
He also stated that a strong military leader is one who prepares the army for combat during peacetime and achieves great victory with minimal loss.
He further urged the sector leaders to follow modern military science and art, and to strive to equip themselves to a level of capability commensurate with the missions assigned to them.
According to ENA, Colonel Yohannes Mekonnen, Deputy Commander for Training Dean at the Defense Command and Staff College, stated that the leaders will take the Air Force's journey to success as a good experience and that they received constructive advice from the Air Force Commander that will enable them to work in coordination for common national goals.
On the day, the sector leaders toured and observed the various operational tasks being carried out at the institution.
