Ethiopia has reiterated the paramount importance of a peace process that is both Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned during a conference held recently in London. The high-level Ethiopian delegation, which has been led by Ambassador Redwan Hussien, Director General for National Intelligence and Security Services, has included State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera.
The delegation advocated for a comprehensive and inclusive settlement that involves all relevant Sudanese stakeholders. The discussions focused on humanitarian assistance, achieving a ceasefire, and pursuing a political resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
Furthermore, the Ethiopian representatives stressed the urgent necessity of achieving a permanent ceasefire in Sudan to ensure the safety and security of civilians and to facilitate the unimpeded delivery of essential humanitarian aid to those in need.
Ethiopia also called upon the international community to enhance its support for Sudan and for neighboring countries that are currently hosting Sudanese refugees. The delegation highlighted the critical significance of maintaining close consultations with Sudanese parties to guarantee the effective and efficient distribution of aid. In addition, Ethiopia urged continued resource mobilization to adequately address the escalating humanitarian crisis stemming from the conflict.
In advocating for a cohesive international approach to fostering peace in Sudan, the Ethiopian delegation underscored the need for a political transition that is driven by Sudanese actors themselves, with facilitation provided by regional organizations and the support of international partners.
The conference, co-hosted by the United Kingdom, the European Union, France, Germany, and the African Union, has convened representatives from a total of 14 countries, alongside various global organizations, including the United Nations, ENA reported.
