Ethiopia, Sweden Partner on Reintegration Program for Former Combatants

The National Rehabilitation Commission and the Swedish Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), the Swedish institute for peace, security and development, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on issues that enable them to work together on the implementation of a program for the reintegration of former combatants.

During the occasion, Temesgen Tilahun, commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission, expressed his appreciation for the financial support that the Swedish government is providing for the implementation of the program.

He also stated that the agreement will be of great benefit for institutional capacity building, research, and gaining international experience.

According to information from the commission, he also requested the Swedish government to strengthen its support to complete the program sustainably and within the timeframe set by the government.

Per Olsson, Director-General of the FBA, on his part, stated that the agreement lays the foundation for jointly carrying out effective demobilization and reintegration work in Ethiopia and will elevate the cooperation to a higher level, FBC reported.
