The 88th anniversary of the February 12th Martyrs' commemoration is being observed in Addis Ababa.
February 12th is a significant date in Ethiopia’s history, marking the commemoration of the Ethiopian Martyrs’ Day. This day honors the thousands of Ethiopians who were massacred by Italian Fascist forces under Marshal Rodolfo Graziani in 1937. The event, known as the Yekatit 12 Massacre, took place in Addis Ababa following an assassination attempt on Graziani, who was the Viceroy of Italian-occupied Ethiopia.
The commemoration is taking place at the Martyrs' Monument in Addis Ababa's Six Kilo area. Hirut Kassaw (Dr.), Head of the Addis Ababa City Administration's Culture, Arts, and Tourism Bureau, and Daniel Jote, son of the president of the Association of Ancient Ethiopian patriots association, laid wreaths. Religious leaders, children of patriots, and other government officials were in attendance.
