Eliyas Musa Dawale, Secretary-General of Djibouti's People's Rally for Progress Party, stated that Ethiopia is the cornerstone of East Africa's economy, peace, and security. The opening ceremony of the Prosperity Party's 2nd regular congress, taking place from January 31st to February 2nd, 2025, commenced with great fanfare at the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa.
Eliyas, present at the ceremony, stated that the Adwa Memorial site represents the strong unity and victory of Africans beyond Ethiopians.
He acknowledged the success achieved in infrastructure development in urban and rural areas through the radical changes undertaken in Addis Ababa and throughout Ethiopia.
The Secretary-General stated that Addis Ababa, true to its name, is becoming increasingly modern, and Ethiopia's decisive leadership has enabled it to achieve rapid success and become a model in agriculture.
He highlighted the economic growth achieved in ensuring food security during the past few years of transformation as a testament to visionary leadership.
He also commended the courageous and wise solution adopted to peacefully resolve the conflicts that occurred in the Tigray region.
He emphasized that Ethiopia's commitment to lasting peace, national reconciliation, and unity creates hope for building a nation capable of realizing prosperity.
He noted that the restoration of the brotherly relationship between Ethiopia and Somalia plays an irreplaceable role in strengthening regional peace and unity. He also expressed gratitude for the significant contribution made by the Turkish government in restoring this friendship.
He stressed the need for deeply rooted cooperation in the face of the East African region's challenges, including terrorism and security threats, climate change, and environmental pollution, in an unpredictable world.
He emphasized that building a strong regional economic system is not a luxury but a necessary and fundamental issue.
The official stated that Ethiopia has always been the cornerstone of East Africa, serving as a shield for regional peace and stability and a partner in economic integration. He added that Ethiopia must continue to strengthen its constructive role in regional peace and stability, as well as in economic transformation in East Africa.
He explained that fostering a continuous spirit of trust among East African countries, leaders, and peoples is crucial for this.
The people and government of Djibouti reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership to realize the Prosperity Party's vision.
He highlighted Ethiopia's national reconciliation and trust-building capabilities, emphasizing its traditional conflict resolution methods.
He underscored that Ethiopia's peace and prosperity are significantly beneficial to the East African community beyond its own people.
Over 1,700 party leadership members, representatives from sister parties in Africa and BRICS member countries, other international organizations, and invited guests are participating in the congress, ENA reported.
