Over 16.4 million Birr has been collected in Gedeo Zone for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The Gedeo Zone's GERD Public Participation Coordination Office reported that 16.4 million Birr was collected in the past month through various fundraising initiatives. The community's significant contribution through bond purchases and other fundraising efforts was highlighted.
Office head, Birhanu Robe, explained that following the GERD trophy's visit to the zone, a fundraising campaign was conducted over the past month, resulting in the collection of over 16.4 million Birr, with pledges exceeding 11 million Birr. He noted the participation of government employees, various community segments, institutions, and associations in the support effort. Birhanu stated the zone's population once again demonstrated its commitment through bond purchases and other fundraising activities.
He also mentioned that the GERD trophy, after a month-long stay in the zone, has been passed on to the Wolayta Zone. He further stated that the target for the remaining months of the budget year is to raise 60 million Birr for the dam's construction.
