The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has shown a strong commitment to fostering innovation in Ethiopia, recognizing the country’s potential for technological advancement. In light of this commitment, a significant partnership has been established between the Ministry of Industry and the UNDP, formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
The agreement, which was signed by Industry Minister Melaku Alebel and UNDP Ethiopia Representative Samuel Gbaydee Doe, sets the stage for a collaborative effort aimed at boosting the capabilities of manufacturing industries across Ethiopia. This partnership is anticipated to facilitate and accelerate technological innovation within these sectors, ultimately enhancing their competitive edge in both local and global markets.
Furthermore, the UNDP has articulated its intention to establish an African Center of Technology Excellence in the capital, Addis Ababa. This center is poised to serve as a pivotal hub for improving the productivity of Africa’s manufacturing industries, equipping them with the necessary tools, skills, and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape, as highlighted by information from the Ministry of Industry.
