Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has declared Ethiopia's agricultural reforms a model for ensuring food security, highlighting the country's success in increasing productivity and adapting to climate change. He made these remarks on the third day of the "World without Hunger" conference in Addis Ababa.
PM Abiy pointed to Ethiopia's ability to produce drought-resistant crops multiple times a year as a testament to these reforms. He also emphasized the role of the "Ethiopia Tamrit" (Made in Ethiopia) initiative, which focuses on agro-industry, in driving agricultural advancements.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for a collaborative approach to combat hunger, advocating for the use of improved agricultural technologies, drought-resistant crops, and the sharing of expertise. He called for harmonious policies among nations and urged international institutions to prioritize support for small-scale farmers.
PM Abiy also highlighted the importance of cross-border technology transfer in agriculture, urging international institutions to support this initiative. He concluded by stating that through collective action, the world can achieve a future free from hunger, safeguarding human dignity.
