The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expressed desire to extend support to Ethiopia in its endeavors to improve medicine, education, agriculture and other sectors.
The world's centre for cooperation in the nuclear field made the announcement during the 68th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference being held from 16 to 20 September 2024 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, where high-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA Member States will consider a range of issues.
In a speech delivered at to delegates, Ethiopian Minister of Innovation & Technology, Bele Mola (PhD) outlined a plethora of initiatives jointly undertaken by the Ethiopian government and the Agency.
Mola urged the Agency to press ahead with technical collaborations with Ethiopia.
In this connection, Minister Mola petitioned for the need to shell out for Ethiopia's efforts in promoting peaceful nuclear science and technology development, especially in health, agriculture, manufacturing and energy development industries.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the IAEA started the Atoms4Food campaign last year, and this event is a continuation of it.
An effort called Atoms4Food aims to assist nations in addressing rising rates of hunger and enhancing food security. By utilizing the benefits of nuclear technology in conjunction with other cutting-edge technologies, the initiative aims to offer nations innovative solutions that are customized to their unique requirements and situations. These solutions will improve agricultural and livestock productivity, manage natural resources, minimize food loss, guarantee food safety, enhance nutrition, and help countries cope with the effects of climate change.
Molla walked participants through Ethiopia's efforts to raise agricultural productivity, emphasizing that Ethiopia should be the primary beneficiary of the initiatives put forward by the agency.//
