PM Abiy Reaffirms Ethiopia's Commitment to Somalia's Territorial Integrity

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has emphatically stated that the Ethiopian government has no questions or ambiguities regarding Somalia's territorial integrity. Addressing queries from members of the House of People's Representatives on diplomacy, the Prime Minister elaborated on Ethiopia's stance towards its neighboring country.

"The Somali people are not just our neighbors, but our brothers and sisters. We have sacrificed for Somalia's peace and unity," PM Abiy declared. He emphasized that Ethiopia has contributed more to Somalia's territorial integrity than any other country and maintains a firm belief in this principle.

The Prime Minister highlighted the current government's practical demonstration of respect for Somalia, stating, "We have fulfilled our role, treating Somalia as we would Ethiopia."

Addressing the recent memorandum of understanding with Somaliland, Abiy explained it as a response to Ethiopia's unanswered requests to its neighbors. He clarified, "Ethiopia's request for port access and rights is a legitimate one. We are working to address this question peacefully through dialogue, and Ethiopia remains ready for this."

PM Abiy expressed Ethiopia's strong desire to work collaboratively with all neighboring countries - Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Kenya - for mutual development, prosperity, and peace based on the principle of reciprocity.

"Gaining sea access is a national aspiration for Ethiopia," the Prime Minister stated. He affirmed that Ethiopia will continue to work towards achieving this right through peaceful and legal means, adhering to the principle of mutual benefit with all its neighboring countries.

In conclusion, PM Abiy reiterated Ethiopia's commitment to pursuing its right to sea access while maintaining peaceful relations and fostering shared growth with its neighbors in the Horn of Africa.//
