President of Ethiopia Taye Atske Selassie has arrived in Moscow this morning to attend the 80th anniversary of Russia's Victory Day, set to be commemorated tomorrow.
The significant milestone marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and specifically the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. The event in the Russian capital is expected to draw a large number of world leaders.
According to reports from the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) on the ground, heads of state from numerous African nations, along with the presidents of China and Brazil, are among those who will participate in the Victory Day events.
Beyond the Victory Day participation, President Taye Atske Selassie is slated to engage in bilateral and multilateral diplomatic discussions with various stakeholders during his visit.
Available information indicates a robust and growing diplomatic relationship between Ethiopia and Russia across various sectors.
Cooperation between the two countries in health, economic diplomacy, trade, investment, and technology is on an upward trajectory. This strengthening bond is underscored by the signing of numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during recent discussions and agreements.
A notable example of this burgeoning relationship was the Ethio-Russia Business Forum held in Addis Ababa in early November of the current Ethiopian year 2017 (November 2024 Gregorian calendar). The forum, themed "Russia and Ethiopia Do Not Wait for Time for Cooperation," brought together officials, business communities, and investors from both nations.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, President Taye Atske Selassie was officially received by Anatoly Bashkin, a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
