Ethiopia’s Somali Region Attracting Larger Investments

Ethiopia’s Somali Region is attracting larger investments, according tom the regional government.

The peace and stability reigned after the national political change has created the opportunity to the regional state to attract large investments in various sectors, including agriculture, said Chief Somali region, Mustafe Mohammed.

Recall that the Somali region has been in an atmosphere of conflict for several years, Mustafe said that following the sweeping national reform in 2018, the people have benefited from development in all fields due to the lasting peace and stability entrenched.

A new chapter has been opened by attracting high investment in agriculture, industry and service sectors and agricultural production has doubled, he told ENA.

He mentioned that there are extensive investment activities in both rain and summer irrigation development in the region. He said wheat and rice are widely cultivated.

Mustafe is ambitious that his administration will significantly contribute to increase national foreign exchange earnings by supplying food crops to the foreign market in addition to ensuring food sovereignty by replacing food crops with local production.

In particular, he mentioned that the Dine for Ethiopia Project   spearheaded started by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is expected to make great contribution to the revitalization of the sector.
