Christians in Ethiopia Marking the Good Friday

Christians in Ethiopia are observing with prayers and various assortments the Good Friday or the Great Friday, locally known as "Siklet" which translates to crucifixion of the Jesus Christ.

Good Friday is not a mere commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus in Golgotha.  It is a day of fasting, intense prayers, lamentations, confessions and prostrations.

Religious leaders in different church denominations remind the faithful about the meaning of the crucifixion.  It is preached as an act of God's love and mercy for mankind.

Good Friday is part of the passion week, in which the faithful practice intense rituals to commemorate tribulations Jesus Christ went through including the crucifixion in Golgotha.

Good Friday also marks the end of the long fasting season, the Great Lent.

Ethiopian Easter is celebrated this coming Sunday.
