Ethiopian Tourism Generates USD1.3 Bn in Three Months

Ethiopian Ministry of Tourism announced it earned ETB14 billion through tourism from domestic visitors in the first quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

Ministry also announced additional USD1 billion was generated from foreign visitors over the same period, and the country’s tourism sector availed 17, 000 new jobs to citizens.  

Ministry’s Head of Communication and Public Relations, Alemayehu Getachew, told Ethiopian Press Agency that the rewarding gains of the sector for the reported period is due to a series of undertakings to stimulate the domestic tourism.

More than 8.9 million domestic and more than 280,000 global tourists contributed the aforesaid revenues to the economy.

He said that the income from the country has benefited tour operators, hotels, traditional goods sellers and similar service providers in the tourism industry.
