Ethiopia, UAE Boost Health Sector Collaboration

Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to deepen their partnership in the crucial health sector, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare services in Ethiopia.

This development unfolded during a recent working visit by an Ethiopian delegation, led by Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba, to the UAE. The delegation participated in the launch of a new health initiative, the 'Beginnings Fund.'

Hosted by the Mohammed bin Zayed Charitable Foundation at Kanad Hospital in Al Ain, the launch event saw Dr. Mekdes deliver remarks emphasizing Ethiopia's ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare, particularly for mothers and children. She highlighted the substantial benefit the 'Beginnings Fund' is expected to bring to developing African nations like Ethiopia.

On the sidelines of the launch, Minister Dr. Mekdes held a productive meeting with her UAE counterpart, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais. Their discussions centered on exchanging valuable experiences in healthcare, identifying new avenues for future collaboration, and expanding existing partnerships.

A key focus of their dialogue was aligning joint efforts with Ethiopia's strategic goal of developing high-standard hospitals.

According to information released by the Ethiopian Embassy in the UAE, the ministers reached a consensus on specific areas for bilateral cooperation within the health sector.

The 'Beginnings Fund' itself is described as a philanthropic framework primarily dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of mothers and young infants across the African continent. This initiative forms a core component of the expanded collaboration between the two nations.
