A major joint security operation in the West Shewa Zone of the Oromia Region has led to the surrender of 61 members of the Shene group, along with the seizure of multiple weapons. The operation, conducted by coordinated security forces, has been hailed as a significant step toward restoring peace in the area.
Colonel Tilahun Gaddissa, the 102 Core Commander, confirmed the success of the operation in an interview with the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC). He credited the collaboration between security agencies and the support of local communities for the breakthrough. "The joint efforts of defense forces, regional police, and intelligence units made this achievement possible," Col. Tilahun stated. He also acknowledged the role of public cooperation in providing critical information that aided the operation.
The West Shewa Zone Chief Gadi Gudeta for his part praised residents' vigilance and support, emphasizing that community involvement was key to dismantling militant activities. "The public’s willingness to work with security forces has been vital in securing peace," the official said.
Authorities reported recovering firearms, ammunition, and other materials used by the insurgents. The surrendered individuals are undergoing rehabilitation and investigation as part of the government’s peace-building efforts.
This operation marks a continued push by Ethiopian security forces to curb armed unrest in the region. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining stability through similar coordinated measures and urged remaining militants to lay down their arms and embrace peaceful resolutions.
