The Addis Ababa City Administration's Labor and Skills Office announced the creation of over 92,000 permanent jobs in the city over the past five months.
Sebahedin Sultan, Director of Employment Services at the office, stated that creating permanent jobs for citizens is a top priority. He stated that the city plans to create 300,000 jobs across various sectors during the budget year, and that this process is underway.
He explained that job opportunities have been identified for 200,000 citizens, with priority given to registration and training of job seekers at 119 one-stop centers. These opportunities are being identified through mega government projects, various institutions, existing enterprises, and workplaces.
The identification process is being carried out using the Ethiopian Labor Market Information Application, and over 151,000 job seekers have been identified so far. These identified job seekers are receiving training in various skill areas at 14 colleges.
Of those who completed the training, 92,698 have secured permanent employment in the past five months. These jobs are in manufacturing, industry, commerce, services, and other sectors. The Employment Council and other stakeholders directly involved in job creation and coordination have made significant contributions.
The office has also launched a job creation campaign running from November 1st to January 30th, 2017, aiming to create jobs for 150,000 citizens. According to ENA, this campaign alone created 35,803 permanent jobs in November.
