Ethiopia's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, has led a virtual delegation to the African Union's (AU) 23rd Extraordinary Executive Council Session.
This meeting, mandated by the 45th Ordinary Session in Accra (July 15-16, 2024), focused on reviewing the AU Skills Assessment and Competence Audit (SACA) process, addressing related issues, and strategizing following the AU's G20 permanent membership.
Discussions centered on expediting SACA implementation to improve the AU Commission's efficiency, a point Ambassador Mesganu stressed, emphasizing adherence to existing policies. The session also reviewed the AU's participation in the G20 Leaders' Summit (Rio de Janeiro, November 18-19, 2024), endorsing the Commission's report and commending its advocacy for African interests.
Delegates urged continued efforts to strengthen Africa's global voice and congratulated South Africa on its G20 Presidency, advocating for close AU collaboration to advance African priorities.
