Ethiopia has achieved a remarkable advancement in sustainable energy with the inauguration of the largest solar grid in Bokolmayo, Somali Regional State.
Funded by the African Development Bank and championed by the Refugees and Returnees Service, this project directly addresses the energy needs of refugee-hosting communities. The grid is projected to power 25,000 homes and essential services—schools, health clinics, and community centers—significantly improving living standards and service delivery.
This initiative exemplifies Ethiopia's commitment to inclusive growth and environmental sustainability, providing clean, reliable energy while fostering sustainable development in a vulnerable region. According to the ENA, the Bokolmayo solar grid serves as a model for leveraging renewable energy to overcome energy challenges in areas hosting refugees and other vulnerable populations.
