The move comes as several African nations are seeking alternative partnerships, distancing themselves from traditional Western allies. They are increasingly turning to Moscow for assistance in tackling the growing threat of jihadist attacks.
Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, explicitly stated that Russia is a more suitable partner than former colonial powers.
He highlighted Mali's exploration of joint projects with Russia in various sectors, including energy, telecommunications, technology, and mining.
Russia's Foreign Minister Lavrov emphasized the strengthening of ties between Russia and Africa, highlighting progress across various areas.
He reiterated Putin's commitment to providing "total support" to African nations in areas such as sustainable development, combating terrorism and extremism, addressing epidemics, food security, and natural disaster relief.
