Ethiopia Reaffirms Commitment to Implementing Geneva Convention Principles.

Ethiopia is determined to uphold and implement the principles of the Geneva Conventions, Foreign Minister Taye Atsikesilassie affirmed during a commemorative event marking the 75th anniversary of the signing of the four Geneva Conventions (GC-75), held yesterday in Addis Ababa.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Semungus Hailegiorgis, Director General of International Organizations at the Ministry, highlighted Ethiopia's long-standing commitment to the Geneva Conventions since 1949. He emphasized that Ethiopia has successfully integrated the principles of international humanitarian law into its national framework and remains resolute in continuing to do so.

Semungus Hailegiorgis also urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to adapt to the evolving challenges posed by technological advancements and strategic shifts, calling for enhanced efforts to strengthen the enforcement of the Convention.

Bruce Mokaya Orina, Head of the African Union Delegation for the ICRC, echoed these sentiments, urging nations to reinforce cooperation in upholding international humanitarian law by ensuring full compliance with the Geneva Conventions.
