Kagame to Serve Fourth Term After Landslide Victory in Presidential Election

Rwanda’s Paul Kagame is set to serve fourth term after landslide victory in presidential election Monday.

He reportedly won the election with over 99 percent of vote.

"In general, the electoral process happened in a safe and transparent atmosphere for Rwandans living abroad and at home," the National Electoral Commission said in a statement.

Kagame, if he finishes his office term successfully, will have ruled Rwanda for 35 years after the genocide.

Opposition candidates Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana together got less than 1% of the vote in provisional results.

Final results are expected by July 27, although they could be announced sooner.
