More than 136,400 people have been displaced and 148 killed due to torrential rains and floods in Sudan’s 14 states.
As floods devastated many provinces, nine people were killed only in northern Sudan, according to Relief web,
The four-hour heavy flooding impacted the state’s seven northern localities.
The floods, in addition to destroying numerous homes, demolished key transport links, including the Sheryan El Shimal (northern artery) highway, which connects Khartoum with the Egyptian border and other crucial routes.
The floods have also sparked a public health emergency, with outbreaks of cholera and conjunctivitis reported in several localities.
In Red Sea State as well Port Sudan faced an escalating water crisis following the collapse of the Arbaat Dam.
Water prices have surged, leaving residents struggling to secure basic supplies. Rescue operations continue, with 30 deaths reported and 50,000 people affected.
20 villages were completely damaged as 50 more were partially damaged.
Sudan Tribune also reported that the death toll from floods in Sudan has reached 148, with 246 injured across 11 states, the National Council for Civil Defense said on Wednesday, as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc and hamper aid delivery.
