The commemorative event in Addis Ababa drew a diverse and influential gathering, including high-ranking AU officials, representatives from member states, the diplomatic community, civil society organizations, youth, and women, all united in their commitment to Africa's future.
Ambassador Hadera paid tribute to the visionary founding fathers of the OAU, acknowledging their pivotal role in establishing the organization and opening a significant chapter in African history through their shared vision for unity. He emphasized the critical need for continued diligent work to realize this enduring vision, ENA reported. Furthermore, he stressed that collaborative efforts are paramount to achieving a peaceful and truly united Africa.
Highlighting the global advocacy for Africa, Ambassador Hadera called for strengthening the efforts and solidarity of the African diaspora in championing Africa's quest for justice and advancing the continent's agenda on the international stage.
Economically, the state minister identified self-sufficiency as a crucial agenda, pointing to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative as a cornerstone for fostering cooperation in this domain. He also stressed the importance of bolstering activities in science and technology, including artificial intelligence, to ensure Africa's global competitiveness in the digital sector. Reaffirming Ethiopia's commitment, he pledged the nation's continued robust participation in achieving continental objectives.
Echoing these sentiments, African Union Chairperson Mohamed Ali Yusuf highlighted the transformative changes currently sweeping across various sectors, which are contributing to Africa's prosperity. He cited the commendable growth achieved by several African nations even amidst formidable challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, advocating for the replication and expansion of these successful experiences across the continent. Chairperson Yusuf concluded with a powerful call to action: "Africans must work together to increase their benefits by adding value to their products and boosting productivity."
