Top police and security officials from across Africa and international bodies have met in Addis Ababa for the First Global Public Security Cooperation Forum, focusing discussions on bolstering collective security and combating transnational threats.
Key figures present included Ethiopia's Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael and the Chairman of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum, Andy Tsang Wai-hung. The gathering also drew participation from the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation (EAPCCO) and delegates representing numerous African police commissions.
Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael highlighted the forum's emphasis on collective security, reaffirming Ethiopia's commitment to promoting peace regionally and continentally. He indicated that Ethiopia presented key public safety concerns during the proceedings.
Chairman Andy Tsang stated the forum is dedicated to tackling global conflicts and their underlying issues through collaborative efforts. He stressed the importance of collective security, detailing initiatives aimed at promoting joint action for lasting peace and development. Tsang also mentioned the forum's drive to implement innovative ideas to improve public well-being and support economic development through cooperation.
According to ENA, participants voiced strong support for the forum, recognizing its potential to facilitate cooperation, particularly in preventing terrorism and combating cross-border criminal activities.
The meeting comes as Ethiopia was recently elected to serve as a Board of Director of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum (Lianyungang), signaling its increasing engagement in international security dialogues.
