Ethiopian Competing Political Parties Call for Dialogue, Reject Force

Competing political parties in Ethiopia are urging an end to the use of force for achieving political goals, emphasizing that dialogue and consultation are essential to reconcile differences and break cycles of conflict. They view the national consultation platform as a crucial opportunity to shift away from relying on force.

Tesfahun Alemneh, chairman of the Amhara Democratic Movement and chairman of the Regional Political Parties Joint Council, stated that a country gains nothing from a bloody path and emphasized that differences of ideas should be reconciled through discussion.

Tesfahun asserted that it is impossible to bring about a lasting solution through armed struggle, which yields only temporary victories. He added that the national consultation platform has broken the pattern of resorting to force to achieve demands.

For his part, Gebru Berhe, chairman of the Ethiopian Democratic Union (EDU), commented that our political system, which has not cultivated a culture of dialogue, has kept us trapped in a cycle of war and massacre.

He further stressed that war is never a solution now and prioritizing discussion is essential.

He highlighted that the National Consultation Commission is a platform that Ethiopia has achieved through struggle and that we should utilize it without squandering the opportunity, according to FBC.
