Staff members at the Ethiopian Embassy in Abu Dhabi have made a notable financial contribution to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), purchasing bonds valued at $26,000. This act underscores the embassy's unwavering commitment to the successful completion of the landmark project.
Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Omar Hussain, highlighted the bond purchase, which took place on April 2, 2025, as a clear indication of the embassy's dedication to seeing the GERD reach its full operational capacity. The dam, now in its fourteenth year of development, is a source of national pride and a key driver for Ethiopia's future energy security.
Ambassador Omar emphasized the ongoing efforts to finalize the construction of Africa’s largest dam in the coming months, stressing the vital role of continued contributions in accelerating its completion. He further stated that a well-defined strategic plan is currently being implemented to actively engage and mobilize the Ethiopian diaspora residing in and around Abu Dhabi, encouraging their participation in various fundraising initiatives designed to support the GERD, according to FBC.
