Following the success of the Renaissance Dam, Ethiopia's next major project is the establishment of a domestic fertilizer factory. Efforts have already begun to launch local fertiliser production, with a strong focus on partnerships with the private sector. However, Ethiopia currently requires 24 million quintals of fertilizer annually. To meet this demand, the country is importing 150,000 quintals of fertiliser per day. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stressed while addressing the parliament.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the substantial role of the agricultural sector in generating employment, noting that farming has created 40% of job opportunities. He also pointed out the job creation resulting from the ongoing corridor development initiatives across the country.
In terms of economic indicators, Prime Minister Abiy reported positive trends, stating that inflation has decreased, and exports have increased. He added that the service, agriculture, and service center sectors have demonstrated promising improvements, a fact he asserted was undeniable.
Addressing public inquiries regarding the funding of these ambitious projects, the Prime Minister explained the vision behind the corridor development. He emphasized that this initiative is aimed at creating a lasting and positive legacy for future generations, leaving behind beautiful things for children and grandchildren. Recalling his visit to Jegol, Harar, he described what he witnessed as amazing, underscoring the historical and cultural significance being preserved and enhanced as part of this legacy.
