ETEX 2025: Addis Ababa Gears Up for Major Tech Showcase Next May

Ethiopia is set to host its largest ever technology event, the Ethiopian Technology Expo 2025 (ETEX 2025), from May 16-18, 2025, at the Addis International Convention Center (AICC). The international expo and conference is a joint initiative of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAll) and the Information Network Security Administration (INSA).

This landmark event comes at a pivotal time for Ethiopia, which is rapidly advancing its digital transformation agenda under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, aligning with the African Union Agenda 2063. The nation's burgeoning IT services market is projected to reach a significant $2.44 billion by next year, positioning Ethiopia as a rising force in key technological domains including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, smart cities, fintech, and tech education.

Cybersecurity is taking center stage in this digital evolution, currently accounting for a substantial 40% of the market revenue. The prioritization of application and data security by 70% of Ethiopian organizations underscores the nation's commitment to building a robust and secure digital future.

The country's economic trajectory is further bolstered by the recent approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $248 million disbursement under the $3.4 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement, providing crucial support for Ethiopia's ongoing economic growth and technological advancements.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently highlighted the nation's progress in the digital sphere, stating, "We have made significant strides as a nation since embarking on our digital journey. To thrive in the digital economy, we must support innovators and build strong digital enablers. We aim to position Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital economy, encouraging global partnerships and empowering our youth to drive the digital revolution.”

Dr. Worku Gachena, Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII), emphasized the significance of the upcoming expo, stating, "ETEX 2025 will showcase Ethiopia’s tech-driven transformation, highlighting our strides in AI, cybersecurity, Smart city and innovation. This expo will encourage global collaboration and Cooperation, positioning Ethiopia as a leader in Africa’s digital future. Initiatives like the 5M Coder Initiative program, are key to this vision, equipping millions with digital skills to drive our growing tech ecosystem.”

ETEX 2025 is anticipated to attract a diverse range of participants, including industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and investors from across the globe, providing a platform to showcase Ethiopia's technological advancements and foster international partnerships in the digital age, FBC learnt.
