Somalia, Ethiopia Strengthen Ties after High-Level Meeting

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) has arrived in Mogadishu, Somalia, for an official working visit. Upon his arrival in Mogadishu, the Prime Minister received a warm welcome from the Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following a recent working visit by Prime Minister Abiy to Somalia. The visit, building on previous engagements, marks a significant step in normalizing relations between the two nations.

The leaders highlighted the deep historical ties and shared border between Somalia and Ethiopia, emphasizing the importance of enhanced diplomatic, economic, and social cooperation to build trust. They underscored their commitment to joint infrastructure projects aimed at sustainable development, economic integration, and strengthening people-to-people connections.

The communiqué also welcomed the ongoing technical talks in Ankara, as outlined in the Ankara Declaration, and praised the agreement reached between Somali National Army (SNA) and Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) commanders to enhance security cooperation and regional stability.

Both countries reiterated their dedication to advancing shared interests, promoting peace and security, and deepening bilateral ties for the benefit of their citizens and the wider Horn of Africa region.
