The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have forged a vital 500 million Birr support agreement.
This substantial funding will provide a much needed lifeline to communities grappling with the devastating consequences of conflict across the Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar, and Somali regions.
The agreement will primarily focus on delivering essential humanitarian assistance, including medicine, food, and other critical resources to those displaced and affected by the ongoing unrest. Recognizing the challenges faced by aid workers, the funding will also be allocated to replacing ambulances damaged during the conflict, ensuring the ERCS can continue its life-saving work.
In light of the risks involved, both organizations are urgently appealing to all parties involved in the conflicts to safeguard Ethiopian Red Cross volunteers as they tirelessly deliver aid to vulnerable populations.
The protection of these humanitarian workers is paramount to ensuring the continued flow of assistance to those who desperately need it.
The agreement signifies a renewed commitment to alleviating human suffering and upholding humanitarian principles amidst challenging circumstances.
