Ethiopia and Kenya have launched a joint military operation targeting the Oromo Liberation Front-Shane (OLF/Shene) armed group operating along their shared border. The operation, announced Tuesday, follows consultations between the two countries' intelligence and security services, including the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) and the Kenyan National Intelligence Service.
NISS Director General, Ambassador Redwan Hussein, and the Director General of the Kenyan National Intelligence Service, General Nuredin Mohamed Haji, as well as senior leaders of the defense and police forces of the two countries, held consultations, the statement said.
The joint effort aims to disrupt OLF/Shene activities, including terrorism, smuggling, and illegal trafficking of weapons and people. Both countries have reported significant damage inflicted on the group during initial operations. While the operation is underway, Ethiopia's NISS has stated that the path to peace remains open.
