The people of Tigray have suffered greatly, and it is unconscionable that they should continue to live under the threat of war. They deserve peace, declared Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
In a message he posted on his social media page in Tigreygna, he emphasized the profound role of the Tigray people in the creation and development of Ethiopia, highlighting their historical significance as a cradle of civilization and a cornerstone of the country's unity. He praised their rich history and their contributions to peace and prosperity, describing them as loyal patriots and hardworking citizens.
PM Abiy acknowledged that for the past 100 years, Tigray has unfortunately been a battleground for various reasons throughout history, resulting in conflict with central governments. He questioned the benefits Tigray has received from past wars and stressed the need for the region and its people to be free from conflict. He challenged the notion that war is the only solution to problems, advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolution.
He called upon Tigray's intellectuals, religious leaders, politicians, and elders to utilize their influence to foster unity and resolve differences peacefully. He urged those involved in politics, business, security, academia, and media to recognize the futility of war and promote peace.
He stressed the importance of resolving disagreements through dialogue and negotiation, strengthening national unity, and adhering to constitutional and democratic processes in resolving differences with the federal government and other entities.
