A study is underway to turn gas stations in Addis Ababa into electric vehicle charging stations. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics made the announcement on Thursday.
The Deputy Head of the Office, Worku Desta, added that in addition to establishing charging stations, charging facilities are also being installed in parking lots as part of the ongoing second phase corridor development.
Berho Hassen, a state minister at the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, further emphasized that vehicle importers and assemblers will not be permitted to operate without installing electric vehicle charging stations.
Additionally, going forward, vehicle importers and assemblers will not be allowed to operate without installing electric vehicle charging stations.
Berho also stated that currently, over 400 institutions are importing and assembling electric vehicles, and all of them have charging facilities, it was learnt.
