China has vowed to facilitate environmentally-conscious modernization in Africa. China is also committed to collaborating with African nations to establish the "Africa Solar Belt"initiative, aiming to assist Africa in embarking on a sustainable and low-carbon development trajectory, as stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a recent address.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks following a meeting with President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso.
In response to inquiries regarding the joint efforts of China and Africa in combating climate change, Wang highlighted President Sassou's dedication to addressing climate change, emphasizing the forward-thinking nature of African leadership.
He also mentioned China's continuous support for Africa in achieving environmentally-friendly development, citing the successful implementation of photovoltaic power plants with a combined installed capacity exceeding 1.5 GW, which have illuminated numerous households across the continent.
President Xi Jinping has advocated for collaborative efforts between China and Africa to advance environmentally-conscious modernization, which is a shared objective of both parties and a focal point of the current visit, Wang emphasized.
He further indicated that China will execute the Partnership Action for Green Development and collaborate with African nations to implement clean energy projects proposed during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Wang also pledged that China will work in tandem with Africa to enhance international climate governance.
Emphasizing the principles of fairness and shared yet distinct responsibilities, Wang urged developed countries to acknowledge their historical obligations, diligently fulfill their commitments, and provide financial, technical, and capacity-building assistance to developing countries, particularly those in Africa.
