In an interview with Djiboutian Radio and Television, Dr. Gideon stated that the visit aimed to foster dialogue on these issues, highlighting the strong and unique collaborative relationship between Ethiopia and Djibouti.
Discussions with President Guelleh and the Djiboutian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, covered cooperation on bilateral and regional political and security issues. Specific topics included trade, port usage, and current regional security concerns.
The Minister described his meetings with Djiboutian officials as constructive and fruitful. Ethiopia and Djibouti share a long history of friendship, particularly in rail, port, and infrastructure development, with formal diplomatic relations established in 1984, ENA reported.
