It surprisingly survived tests of time even during the Covid-19 pandemic, a crossroad where the spirit of Africa proved its wisdom while several others collapsed, and even lost track until recently.

Ethiopian Airlines has then won the Best Airline in Africa award for the seventh time at the Skytrax Awards, known as the Oscars of Aviation in the industry. Recently, Skytrax, the global airline rating organization, named Ethiopian Airlines the Best African Airline for 2024. It has won this award for seven consecutive years. The airline has won four awards in total, including Best Business Class and Economy Class in Africa, as well as Best Inflight Food and Beverage Service for Economy Class passengers in Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines, which has been around for nearly eight decades, has achieved all this success thanks to the tireless efforts and disciplined focus of the airline’s management and employees, as well as the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, which has been playing irreplaceable role in its success.

When the International Civil Aviation Organization was established in Chicago in 1944, attended by fifty-two countries, Ethiopia was one of the three African countries that participated. The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, which was established under the name Ethiopian Civil Aviation Service a few days after the establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organization, has been playing an irreplaceable role behind the success of Ethiopian Airlines.

There can be no strong airline without a strong civil aviation institution. The Ethiopian civil aviation sector has been a major contributor to the social and economic development of our country, especially to the expansion of tourism and trade.

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority has contributed significantly to the development of safe air transport, which has made Ethiopian Airlines a highly successful airline, and has contributed significantly to the sustainable development of air transport. Currently, Ethiopian Airlines has the capacity to carry 17 million passengers and more than 750 thousand metric tons of cargo annually, thanks to the reliable capacity built by the aviation sector.

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority has 141 international and 23 domestic destinations in accordance with its agreements with countries. The air transport process, which started with five aircraft, currently has 240 aircraft registered and in service. Behind all this success is the irreplaceable role of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority in maintaining safety.
