Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has declared Ethiopia's unwavering commitment to securing access to the Red Sea, stating that it is a "non-negotiable national interest."

Addressing Parliament, he emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution, but also issued a strong warning to any potential adversaries.

"Either we or our children will achieve this," he declared, drawing thunderous applause from lawmakers.

PM Abiy dismissed any notion that Ethiopia would back down from its claim, asserting that the country has the resources and the will to secure its rightful place on the Red Sea.

He further emphasized that Ethiopia's 120 million people would not be held hostage by any nation, and that the country is prepared to defend its sovereignty.

"We have enough capacity to defend ourselves," he stated, highlighting Ethiopia's growing military and industrial capabilities. "We will not retreat from anyone," he warned, emphasizing the country's determination to protect its interests.

He also sought to dispel any fears of an imminent invasion, drawing a parallel to the historic victory at Adwa. "If our forefathers could secure independence with 5 million people, we can do it with 120 million," he declared.

"We will not attack anyone, but we will not be intimidated either," he concluded, leaving no doubt about Ethiopia's resolve to secure its rightful place on the Red Sea.
