Addis Ababa has experienced aftershocks following a recent earthquake. That is according to Dr. Elias Lewi, Director of Geophysics and Space Science at Addis Ababa University.

He stated that the aftershock occurred at 1:37:50 am today and was felt in Addis Ababa. The earthquake originated in the Awash Fentale area, the same location as the previous earthquake, and measured approximately 4.6 on the Richter scale, Dr. Elias Lewi confirmed to EBC Cyber.

Dr. Elias stated that the earthquake activity in the area has not stopped and has been occurring frequently recently. However, he reassured that it is not a cause for major concern.

He explained that the cause of the earthquake was a tectonic plate movement deep underground, but this movement has not reached the surface.

Dr. Elias added that similar activity has been occurring for the past 19 consecutive days and that they are closely monitoring the situation.
