Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has launched Thursday an upgraded version of its mobile banking app, CBE Birr Plus.
The updated app offers a range of new services and features designed for easier streamlining of financial transactions for users.
Some of the upgraded version of the CBE Birr+ app enable customers to set up transfer funds to other banks, link multiple bank accounts at a time, purchase mobile airtime, make condominium payments, send money to groups, and manage payment plans.
The app's user-friendly design is also intended to improve the overall mobile banking experience, it was learnt.
During the launching ceremony, CBE's Acting President, Ephrem Mekuria, emphasized the growing significance of digital payments, revealing that transactions through mobile banking reached ETB 31 trillion during the 2023/24 Ethiopian fiscal year.
Ephrem also noted that 72% of these transactions were conducted via mobile platforms.
Currently, CBE serves 12 million mobile banking customers.
