The Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, which has been in implementation for the past five years, has yielded significant results in the digital system, stated the Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla (Dr.).
The minister said that a country's holistic development can only be ensured when its operational systems are supported by science, technology, and innovation. He explained that Ethiopia has prepared the necessary legal frameworks and strategies to transition into a digital system and has begun implementation.
He also noted that the foundational infrastructure enabling the move to a digital system has been put in place and has become operational.
The Minister stated that the strategy has been implemented in alignment with the Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda, the 10-Year National Development Plan, and the African Digital Transformation Strategy.
He mentioned that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, implemented over the last few years, will conclude in one month. He added that a subsequent five-year strategy, to be implemented until 2030, is currently under preparation.
The minister announced that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy has registered remarkable achievements in the science, technology, and innovation sector over the past five years.
He highlighted the successful work accomplished in establishing a digital payment system, expanding digital services, and making digital IDs accessible.
Regarding the modernization of government operations, he mentioned that the "Mesob" one-stop service center is among the successful projects realized to make Digital Ethiopia 2025 a reality. He announced that the center is providing various integrated government services under one roof using digital technologies.
Furthermore, he pointed out that efforts are underway to expand the "Mesob" one-stop service to regional cities to make more people beneficiaries of the service, ENA learned.
