UN Chief, Arab League Secretary Along With 34 African Leaders to Attend AU Summit in Addis Ababa

Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced Thursday that 34 African heads of state and government along with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu and Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit will attend the African Union summit.

The 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which will be held in Addis Ababa from February 14 to 18, 2024, comes after the capital has made intensive preparations to warmly welcome participants, the spokesperson of the ministry said as he briefed media.  

The 2024AU summit is themed “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.

According to the spokesperson, Amb. Meles Alem, Ethiopia has prepared two agendas for the summit: "Harnessing Digitalization for transformation" and "Africa food self-sufficient Climate Smart Solutions and Collective Actions for System Transformation.”
