Military chiefs and officials of various African countries have arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the 116th National Army Day of Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has picked October 26th as an Army Day in reference to its military history, Ethiopian Ministry of Defense announced.
While moderating a panel Tuesday, advisor to the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Alemshet Degifie, recalled that it was on 26th of October, 116 years ago that Ethiopia had a minister of war.
This historic background as well as the need by the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) “to show building an army is intergenerational, the Army Day has been slated for Oct 26,” he explained.
Lt. Gen. Alemshet stressed peace is the result of affluent sacrifice, implying why the army deserves high value and prestige.
Whilst, ENDF Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula received Tuesday Chief of Staff of the Tanzanian Armed Forces, General Jacob John and discussed ways to take their military ties into a new height.
General Jacob John arrived in Addis Ababa to attend the 116th Ethiopian Defense Forces Day, to step up military cooperation between Ethiopia and Tanzania as well, according to a social media post by ENDF.
Field Marshal Birehanu also received his South African counterpart Chief of Staff Gen. Rudzani Maphwanya the two Chiefs have talked ways on enhancing military cooperation.
The two generals pledged to step up their military ties on training and experience sharing.
The chiefs of staff are expected to attend the assortments which preceded the main army day and share their respective countries’ experiences in the field.
